About Us

Friends of Suomi was organized in 1886 and is still going strong with 231 members. Many of these members can trace their families, arrival to Astoria to the late 1800's and early 1900's. In 1900, the largest number of foreign born Astorians, were from Finland. Most of these Finnish Immigrants lived in a neighborhood called Uniontown. Today, Astoria Lodge # 2 still meets in Uniontown at Suomi Hall. The purpose of our organization is to unite people of Finnish origin, their families and friends and promote the high ideals, traditions and heritages of their Finnish forefathers. The lodge hosts traditional Finnish dinners, concerts and other cultural activities that are open to the public. The membership meets at 1:00 pm on the Sunday before the second Monday (November-March) and 6:00 pm on the second Monday (April-October) at Suomi Hall, 244 W. Marine Dr. in Astoria. If you would like to join our lodge, please contact clatsop41@yahoo.com or 503.791.9156. Yes, Non-Finns can join! If you would like to rent our hall, the capacity is 212 - there is a social room, large meeting hall and a commercial kitchen. Please call Suomi Hall 503-325-4065 and leave a message.
