DESCRIPTION:In the era of wooden boats\, "chafing mats" were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat "accessory" and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Register for CRMM's Maritime Weaving Club to try your hand at these historic patterns!\n\n\n\nWEAVING CLUB DATES for 2026:\n\nSaturdays\, January 3\, 17 and 31\, 2026 - Kringle Knot\n\nSaturdays\, February 14 and 28\, 2026 - Ocean Knot\n\nSaturdays\, March 14 and 28\, 2026 - Bight Turks Knot\n\n\n\nCapacity in the Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop is limited to 8 weavers at a time.
