Amahl and the Night Visitors

Cascadia Chamber Opera proudly announces its 2026 winter production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s enchanting one-act opera Amahl and the Night Visitors. Performances will take place Friday, January 9 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, January 11 at 3:00 PM. Tickets are now available at CascadiaChamberOpera.org.

Composed in 1951, Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors became the first opera ever written for American television, instantly capturing the nation’s imagination. Menotti, born in Italy and trained at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute, was celebrated for his gift at weaving lyrical, emotionally direct music with stories that speak to audiences of all ages. Amahl remains his most cherished work—a testament to his belief in the transformative power of kindness, humility, and generosity.

This fully staged, visually rich Cascadia Chamber Opera production brings Menotti’s score to life in all its warmth and color. In just under one hour, audiences will journey with young Amahl—a spirited boy with a vivid imagination—and his mother as they encounter three traveling kings following a miraculous star. Through humor, wonder, and a moment of profound sacrifice, the opera builds to a finale that has moved audiences for generations.
