An Overview of Oregon Coastal Geology
This mini course is being offered at Columbia River Maritime Museum's Barbey Maritime Center (2042 Marine Drive) on Tuesdays, October 1, 8, and 15 from 6:00-7:00 PM! Ed Joyce has a PhD in Oceanography and BS in Geology. His research interests include nearshore sedimentary processes and paleoclimatic studies. Ed has twelve years of college teaching experience and has been on the Board of Directors of Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition, a coastal environmental group, for the last eight years. Week 1: An introduction to Oregon coastal geology, plate tectonics, and the major tectonic events impacting the Oregon coast. Week 2: Oregon coastal geomorphology and oceanography; impacts on beach geometry, sediment transport, beach stabilization efforts, and offshore wind technology. Week 3: An overview of the Columbia River estuary, focusing on interactions with the open ocean and the impact of flood plain removal and upriver dams on the health of the estuary.
