Celebrate the Astoria Column’s 100th anniversary—and the artistry and ingenuity behind its amazing murals—with a behind-the-scenes look at their preservation. The Clatsop County Historical Society invites the community to “Restoring Pusterla: The Story Behind the Astoria Column Murals,” a free, one-night Thursday Night Talks (TNT) lecture featuring restoration lead John Goodenberger on May 21 at Fort George’s Lovell Showroom.
Goodenberger, on-site manager for the 2015 Astoria Column restoration, will share how conservators protected and recreated sections of Attilio Pusterla’s artwork after decades of wind, rain, and salt air—helping ensure future generations can continue to experience this landmark as it was meant to be seen.
Be part of the Astoria Column centennial celebration at Fort George Brewery’s Lovell Showroom (14th & Duane, Astoria) on May 21, 2026. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with the talk beginning at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available, and minors are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
