North Coast Symphonic Band: "A Fantastic Voyage: Music for River, Sea, and Space"
North Coast Symphonic Band Embarks on “Fantastic Voyage” to Launch 45th Season In J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, Peter tells Wendy, “Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning.” In that spirit of adventure, join the North Coast Symphonic Band (NCSB) as it embarks on its 45th season with “A Fantastic Voyage: Music for River, Sea, and Space” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Liberty Theatre in Astoria. The band is conducted by Terry Dahlgren of Warrenton. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the Astoria Tuba Quartet will provide prelude music starting at 1:30 p.m. The band encourages audiences to purchase admission tickets in advance for $15 at the Liberty Theatre Box Office from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays or online at www.libertyastoria.showare.com. Tickets purchased the day of the concert are $20. High school students are admitted free; admission for middle school students and younger is free with a paying adult. The Liberty is located on the corner of 12th and Commercial streets in Astoria. Audiences will sail the Hudson River and the high seas ... feel the pageantry of the British Royal Tournament in "Tall Ships" by Ron Goodwin ... and go "where no one has gone before” in a medley that includes a ride on the U.S.S. Enterprise. You may even find yourself on the deck of the Black Pearl with Captain Jack Sparrow! The NCSB is a nonprofit community performing arts group composed of local musicians of all ages who enjoy networking, learning from each other, and maintaining their skill levels in a positive and supportive environment. Board members for the 2024-25 season are Brian Bergman, President; John Hammond, Vice President and Associate Director; Jessica Strecker, Treasurer; Kristin Wishon, Secretary; Kathleen Strecker, Publicity and Programs; Dennis Hale, Logistics; Janet Bowler, Social Media and Webmaster; Mary Rohner, Librarian; Sally Schrager; and Keith Neal. The NCSB performs four concerts per year at the historic Liberty Theatre in Astoria. Upcoming performances will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025; Sunday, April 13, 2025; and Thursday, July 3, 2025. Rehearsals are from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (PAC) in Astoria. Most sections of the band are currently full, but clarinets are needed.
