Please join us as we celebrate the opening of our newest exhibit, Science of Storms with special Family Programs offered by our Education Department.
Weather Lab Ford Room 11am, 1pm, 3 pm 20 minutes (recommended ages 7+) The Pacific Northwest is famous for its unpredictable weather and wild winter storms. In this Learning Lab visitors will participate in experiments demonstrating how humidity, air pressure, and temperature all influence our weather.
NOAA Weather Wall Science of Storms Gallery 15 minutes (recommended ages 7+) Educator led demonstrations on the museum’s new interactive NOAA weather wall. Explore animated images such as atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature. We will explain sometimes complex environmental processes in a way that is simultaneously intuitive and captivating.
Pop-Up Activities Galleries & Great Hall 5-20 minutes (recommended ages 2+) Docent led activities will pop-up throughout the week in the museum galleries. Activities will include: lighthouse art project, hypothermia experiments, rope making, lighthouse experiments, and oil spill cleanup experiments. Hands-on displays of fur trade items, whale bones, and survival equipment will pop-up throughout the week.
