Tree Talk: Giant Sequoia and Coast Redwood in Oregon
Visitors are invited to experience one of Astoria’s remarkable living landmarks during Tree Talk: Giant Sequoia and Coast Redwood in Oregon, a special presentation at the Flavel House Museum on Saturday, September 12, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Presented by Dan Stark, OSU Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Agent, the program will explore giant sequoias and coast redwoods in western Oregon. Participants will also have the opportunity to see and touch the well-known giant sequoia planted by Captain George Flavel’s gardener around 1890 on the grounds of the Flavel House. Tree hugging is encouraged..
The program offers a distinctive opportunity to explore forestry and local history in the setting of one of Astoria’s best-known historic properties. Participants will learn more about two iconic tree species while encountering a giant sequoia that has stood on the Flavel House grounds for more than a century.
