About Us

The objective of this organization is to keep alive and to further the Scandinavian heritage of the citizens of Clatsop County and to promote and conduct the annual Scandinavian Midsummer Festival.

The Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival has been a tradition on the North Coast of Oregon for over fifty years. The Midsummer Festival takes place on the 3rd full weekend of June every year.

The festival embodies the rich Nordic culture and heritage that was transplanted to the Astoria, Oregon region. In the pacific northwest, they found the same bounteous waters and forests as in their native lands and the demand for their skills at managing them.

During the three days of the festival over a dozen Nordic musical, dance, and theater groups are scheduled to entertain.

Retail booths will offer handcrafts, Nordic imports, and traditional foods. Local community groups offer full Nordic-themed meals. The Beer Garden serves hand-crafted beers and a limited menu open to families.

All events take place at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, three miles east of Astoria including a bonfire, queen's coronation, and dance, craft booths, national anthems, midsummer pole raising, tug-of-war and eating contests, a troll run through the countryside, a parade of National Folk Wear, a Viking encampment, horses, entertainment from the old country, a special church service and games for kids.
